Specialist Physiotherapy
* Practice owner, Jennifer Callaghan is formally accredited as a Specialist Physiotherapist in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy by Australian College of Physiotherapists
Led by Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist*, Jennifer Callaghan, we take the time to provide a holistic assessment, looking beyond just the physical symptoms to understand the lifestyle, occupational, environmental, and psychological factors that may be influencing your pain. From there, we work with you to develop a personalised plan and empower you with the tools and support you need to understand, manage, and regain confidence in your body.
Our evidence-based approach incorporates education, hands-on therapy, movement retraining, therapeutic exercise, strength and conditioning, and lifestyle suggestions to help you improve your quality of life and get back to doing what you love.

of experience
Principal physiotherapist | musculoskeletal & sports physiotherapy
Jennifer is a Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist (as awarded by the Australian College of Physiotherapists in 2025). This qualification is the highest level of clinical recognition in Australian physiotherapy.
With over two decades of experience in musculoskeletal and sports physiotherapy, Jennifer has worked across private practice, hospital emergency departments, surgical screening clinics, and elite sports settings. She understands the full journey of pain — from its first onset to surgical considerations, rehabilitation, and recovery — giving her a unique ability to assess and manage conditions from every possible angle.
Jennifer is 1 of 14 Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapists in Victoria.
Specialist physiotherapists have advanced skills and expertise, which allow them to assess and manage complex cases with a high degree of precision and care.
For many patients, engaging with a specialist physiotherapist can lead to an accurate diagnosis, clear treatment direction, targeted intervention strategies, collaborative care, and progression towards long-term outcomes.
Specialist physiotherapists also provide second opinions for people with these more complex health conditions
Many of our clients have consulted multiple health practitioners without experiencing sustained improvements. Jennifer takes a comprehensive and personalised approach to assessment and management. This includes a thorough initial consultation designed to screen for conditions that may require management beyond physiotherapy.
Clients with persistent pain may also experience symptoms such as fatigue, difficulty concentrating, disrupted sleep, low energy levels, and a reduction in physical activity. Jennifer recognises the importance of addressing these broader concerns to support long-term recovery and improved quality of life.
Jennifer ensures a collaborative approach by liaising with the wider healthcare team. This coordination helps streamline care and achieve the best possible outcomes.
To provide a comprehensive and personalised service, all initial appointments for new patients are one hour in duration.
Given her expertise and experience, Jennifer is regularly sought out by both patients and fellow physiotherapists for second-opinion assessments for patients with complex and/or persistent pain conditions. With your consent, we can liaise with your treating health professionals regarding an ongoing management plan.
Jennifer has worked with Tennis Australia, Surfing Australia, and the US Open (Tennis), as well as community and semi-professional AFL, rugby league, and soccer teams. She is highly skilled in the assessment and treatment of sports-related injuries, from acute conditions to chronic pain and rehabilitation.
With extensive experience in treating general musculoskeletal conditions, post-surgical recovery, and chronic pain management, Jennifer has a particular interest and expertise in treating complex cases where patients have undergone multiple treatments without success.
Jennifer has provided physiotherapy care for members of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and New York City Broadway Musicals, ensuring musicians and performers maintain peak physical health. She has also served on the Board of the Australian Society for Performing Arts Healthcare.
Jennifer has worked in Emergency Departments, Orthopaedic and Neurosurgery Physiotherapy Screening Clinics, Outpatient Services, Geriatric and Neurological Rehabilitation, helping patients with a wide range of conditions, from post-surgical recovery to chronic neurological disorders.
At Callaghan Physiotherapy, we don’t believe in a “one-size-fits-all” approach. Instead, we combine evidence-based techniques with an individualised, whole-person perspective, ensuring that treatment aligns with both your physical condition and personal goals.
Whether your goal is to move with ease in daily life, keep up with family demands, perform better at work, or enhance athletic performance, we develop personalised, achievable plans designed to support your needs and lifestyle.
We take the time to understand your history, previous treatments, and daily challenges.
We assess not just the site of pain, but how your whole body moves and functions.
We aim to understand all possible factors contributing to your pain – both the physical health of your body, as well as the context in which your body lives.
We identify priority areas for treatment based on your specific values and needs.
Depending on your condition, treatment may include:
Hands-on therapy (manual therapy, joint mobilisation, and soft tissue techniques).
Exercise rehabilitation (specific exercise, general physical activity programs, lifestyle advice).
Individualised pain education & management strategies.
